Green County Economic Support offers a wide variety of public assistance programs to low-income families and individuals.  The following programs are offered to Green County residents:

  • Medical Assistance

The Medical Assistance Program serves low-income families with minor children, and elderly and disabled individuals.  There are different “flavors” of Medical Assistance, which include BadgerCare, Healthy Start, regular Medical Assistance, Medical Assistance Purchase Plan (MAPP), and Institutional/Community Waivers Medical Assistance.

  • QMB/SLMB/SLMB+

For eligible participants, Wisconsin Medicaid can pay for some or all of a participant’s Medicare premiums, deductibles, and co-payments.

  • Prior-Authorized Medical Assistance Transportation

For eligible participants, Medical Assistance can provide reimbursement up to $.24/mile for transportation costs to and from medical appointments.

  • FoodShare

The FoodShare program issues electronic FoodShare benefits to low-income families and individuals that qualify for the program.  Some individuals are required to participate in the FoodShare Employment and Training Program (FSET) to secure employment.  FSET participants are required to participate in activities that will most likely lead to employment.  Examples may be work search, workshops at the Job Center, or a work experience site.

  • Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program  (WHEAP)

This program providers a one-time payment to eligible households for their heating and electric costs.  Additionally, this program provides furnace repair or replacement for eligible households.  Referrals are made to weatherization services, if appropriate.

  • Wisconsin Works (W-2)

Under W-2, there is no entitlement to assistance, but there is a place for everyone who is willing to work to their ability.  The W-2 Program is available to financially eligible parents with minor children.  Each of our W-2 participants meets with a Financial and Employment Planner (FEP) and an Economic Support Specialist, who helps the individual develop a self-sufficiency plan and determines the participant’s placement on the W-2 Employment Ladder.  The ladder consists of unsubsidized employment, trial jobs, community service jobs, or W-2 Transition.   Only the community service jobs and W-2 Transition offer a cash payment to the household.  Individuals are limited to 24 months in a single employment position category.  The maximum lifetime limit is 60 months.

  • W-2 Child Care

The W-2 Child Care Program serves low-income parents by offering assistance towards the family’s child care costs.  Families that are approved for the program are required to use certified or licensed providers.  Parents are often required to pay a co-payment for this program.

  • Kinship Program

The Kinship Program provides a monthly payment to caretaker relatives (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc) who are providing care and maintenance for a person under age 18 or a person age 18 years of age or over, but under age 19 years of age who is a full-time student in good academic standing.

  • SSI Caretaker Supplement (C-SUPP)

The C-SUPP Program provides a monthly payment to eligible children of a SSI parent.
